Contamination of hydraulic systems on Jumbo underground drilling rig
The hydraulic lubricants of Jumbo underground drills are contaminated with dust and water during operations. To address these issues, preventive oil changes are carried out during maintenance. However, oil analysis reveals high contamination levels.
Customer’s concerns or issues
Oil waste was an environmental concern and unecesssary oil changes were costly.
To prevent downtime due to equipment failures, the client performed systematic oil changes during each drill maintenance session. However, this approach of premature oil replacement, although a preventive measure, turned out to be costly.
Benefits of our solution
Savings and impact
Our solution was to connect the drill to the purifier as soon as it arrived at the maintenance bay, allowing the oil to be purified and filtered while other maintenance tasks were being performed. One key requirement was to ensure a quick and easy connection to all equipment upon arrival. By efficiently removing water and dust particles, we successfully restored the physical properties of the oil. This allowed the equipment to return to its optimal condition without requiring a full oil change. This approach enabled our client to significantly reduce their annual oil waste, resulting in notable savings on the maintenance budget and a positive environmental impact.
